419 acres of gazzeted forest has been allocated to squatters by National Land Commission despite a court order restraining such a action.

The land had been given to the group by former president Moi in 1990s but a dispute ensued between them and Kenya Forest Services.

The squatters under Kamiti Anmer Development Association (Kada), Muungano wa Kamiti Society, Kamiti Forest Squatters Association and Kamiti Anmer Squatters Welfare have since been in dispute. The dispute emerged following insufficient documentation following the allocation by the president.

Last year, Thika Environment and Land Court directed orders against interference of the land until the dispute is solved.

The order required that the disputing parties continue to occupy their current positions without erecting new or permanent structures.

NLC had formerly advised that Kenya Forest Service and the purported beneficiaries reach a conflict resolution.
