Meghan Markle ’s sister Samantha has addressed the comment by her husband Prince Harry that caused an uproar amongst her family.
Prince Harry had opened up about his first Christmas with then wife-to-be Meghan, which they spent with the Royal family .
Speaking on BBC Radio 4, Harry addressed whether she had to get used to any new festive traditions.
He said: “She’s done an amazing job, you know it’s the family I suppose she’s never had.”
The remark caused controversy at the time, with the family, including half-sister Samantha, feeling snubbed by Meghan.
Now, speaking on Channel 5’s new documentary Meghan and the Markles: A Family at War, Samantha revealed how the family were hurt by the comments, believing Meghan was “embarrassed” by them.
She said: “The first thing I thought was I don’t think Harry has been given the full story.
“Something was not right. Though we weren’t the classic family together on schedule for every holiday, we were family.”
He added: “Then we questioned why… why would she be embarrassed about her family, why would you need to set the stage differently.
“It was starting to feel like she wasn’t reaching out to the family.”
Samantha went on to explain why she blasted her sister for wearing a dress worth over £70,000 for her engagement shoot, saying she thought it was wrong of her given she had often campaigned to help those in poverty.
She also discussed the wedding snub that saw her and other family members not invited, believing it was done deliberately.
