Margaret Kenyatta honours the Late Wangari Maathai for her legacy


Margaret Kenyatta has today honoured the Late Wangari Maathai for her legacy in environmental conservation.

This was during the #WangariMaathaiDay celebrations that she presided over today at the August 7th Memorial Park

The First Lady described today as a special day which marks the 6th year of the honor of Kenya’s heroine and great icon Professor Wangari Maathai.

Margaret Kenyatta noted that the space they held the celebrations symbolizes hope, reconciliation and peace in memory of the victims of 7th August 1998 terrorist attack.

“The August 7TH Memorial Park stands as an oasis of peace” she added

She also highlighted that the green landscape and peaceful setting resonates with Prof. Maathai’s fight; to live in peaceful harmony with the environment.

Margaret Kenyatta also stated that Kenya will forever be indebted to the Late Wangari Maathai for her relentless advocacy campaigns to preserve public lands and forests that we enjoy today.

Since today marked Africa’s environment day as well. the First lady added that the #AfricaEnvironmentDay reminds us of the work that still needs to be done to make our planet safe for our children.

She also pledged to lend her voice and work tirelessly to support both environmental and wildlife conservation and preservation, as well as promote peaceful co-existence

As part of the celebrations, Margaret Kenyatta also officially opened the Wangari Maathai Conference Hall.
