A section of western politicians accuse president Uhuru of targeting Luhya community

Politicians have been warned of attributing war on graft as targeting a particular community, however, some section of politicians still hold the belief.

The sacking of Sports minister Rashid Echesa seems to have rattled a section of Western Kenya MPs who now claim Uhuru is targeting them unfairly.

At Matungu on Saturday, National Assembly Majority Whip Benjamin Washiali accused President Uhuru Kenyatta of insincerity, adding that the Head of State was ungrateful to the region despite campaigning for him against all odds.

“We went against our people’s wishes and supported the Jubilee agenda to unite all Kenyans in 2017. We fought hard and expected to be treated well,” he said.

“If we had closed our polling stations in October 2017 like what happened in Nyanza, Uhuru would have been a lame duck president,” he added.

According to him, sacking of Echesa is a wide plot to lock of DP William Ruto, insisting that there is a secret scheme to frustrate Ruto by targeting his allies.

He said that he could be next on the radar as Majority Whip, adding that those targeting the DP are now free to take away the seat because he’s not interested.

“The Deputy President has been coming here often, telling us how being in government has helped and he always gives the example of CS Rashid. Now they have taken the seat so that he (Ruto) has no reason to come back,” said Washiali.

“If they also want the Majority Whip position, they can as well take it. But let them be warned that in 2022, we will show you another way,” he said.

The Mumias East MP has been key points man for DP William Ruto from the region and perhaps the senior most MP based on his position as Majority Whip.
