Manchester United’s Sergio Romero Is A New Guinness World Record Holder

Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero is a new Guinness World Record holder for scoring the most goals from the halfway line in 60 seconds.

Adam Brown, a Guinness World Records adjudicator, explained the rules for attempting the record and that for a goal to be valid the shot must be hit from behind the halfway line.

However, you don’t need to wait for your previous shot to go in before you can hit the next one and there wasn’t a goalkeeper to stop the shots.

The previous record stood at just five and was easily smashed by Romero and two of his United teammates – Ander Herrera and Phil Jones – but it was the Argentine who came away with the world record.

In a minute, United’s back-up ‘keeper managed to score 20 goals, one more than Jones with 19 and easily beating Herrera who only managed 14, earning Romero the accolade.

If you’re thinking that that sounds like a well easy world record to beat then be warned it seems a lot harder than it looks and the three professionals all sounded exhausted after their attempts.

Spanish midfielder Herrera said: “I didn’t expect it was going to be that tough.”

While panting, Romero added: “I need some water and oxygen”.
