When brothers turn competitors, the feeling is not only felt by the two but goes deep and as far as the family is as well to their friends in every sport.
Sabastian Vettel’s brother Fabian, has joined Mercedes for the 2019 ADAC GT Masters Series. But the younger brother of four time F1 champion Sebastian admits he had reservations joining the German outfit.
Sebastian’s Ferrari team are set to battle it out with Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes once again for the F1 title this season. The two teams have dominated F1 in recent years and Fabian concedes it was not an easy choice to move to Hamilton’s team.
“Mercedes was always our opponent,” he said. “It was like that practically for the whole family.
“Because my brother has always raced against them, so in the beginning it was funny.”But I have no problem that my brother battles Mercedes in F1 and I drive for them in the GT Masters.”
Asked how his bother reacted to the news Fabian would be joining the Silver Arrows, he said: “Sebastian took it well.“He said ‘If you have the opportunity, go for it!'”
The 2019 ADAC GT Masters series gets underway on April 26 in Borde, Germany.Vettel will join Marvin Dienst at Mercedes for the upcoming campaign.
As for his brother, Sebastian Vettel suffered a big crash in Day Two of practice in Barcelona this week.
“Overall the car is strong, it feels good,” Sebastian Vettel said.”We have been exploring a lot of things since day one and it has been very productive.
“Overall, I am still positive about the car and the feeling inside the car.”
