Meghan Markle is truly in the business of breaking the royal rules, now the Dutchess refuses o have her child in England. She wants to have her first born in an American hospital.

Well, this is not the first time a princess has broken this rule. Princess Diana also had her terms when bringing her children to the world. She broke royal tradition and decided to have her two sons in hospital rather than at home.

She opted for London’s Lindo Wing, a private section of a NHS hospital in Paddington, and the Duchess of Cambridge continued her new tradition and had George , Charlotte and Louis there.

The tradition of ‘Paddington’ may be broken by Meghan Markle, because according to Diana’s former butler and close friend Paul Burrell , the Duchess could opt for an American hospital.

“I don’t think she will use the Lindo Wing, I think she will use an American hospital like The Portland, which is owned by the Hospital Corporation Of America.

“I don’t think she will go the same path as Kate. I get the feeling she’s out to do things differently, it’s her way, Meghan’s way. I think she’s going to be very strong and defiant.”

The Portland is the only fully private maternity hospital in the UK, and a consultant-led ‘normal’ delivery costs £6,100.

Each extra night you stay will set you back £1,250 in a standard room and £2,250 if you’re in a suite.

New mums who pick the hospital will benefit from all the usual treatments plus some extra special treatments including a daily afternoon tea, a photoshoot and prints, post-natal physiotherapy and a complimentary discharge gift.

A normal, straight forward birth at the Lindo Wing costs £5,900, plus £1,175 for any additional night’s stay.

If the mum has to have a caesarean the cost jumps to £7,435 and deluxe rooms and suites are more expensive.

It offers “world-class maternity care”, “personalised service”, and even the option of ordering a glass of champagne to toast the baby’s arrival.

With its art installations, en-suite rooms and chef-made food (including afternoon tea), the private unit is the perfect location for a royal birth.

Meghan is due to give birth around April time, but her exact due date has not been officially announced.
