Berlin marathon runner-up Amos Kipruto has resumed training after recovering a knee injury he sustained earlier this year which consequently forced him to pull out of the Tokyo Marathon set for Sunday.

Kipruto was an unlikely hero as he came in second in Berlin last year September although his achievement may have been overshadowed by Eliud Kipchoge’s record-breaking heroics.

Later in December, Kipruto competed in Kolkata 25km Road Race in India where he finished third, a race he was using in the build up to the Tokyo Marathon.

“It feels good to be back in training after I suffered a knee injury last month. I was to compete in Tokyo which I was optimistic of doing well but I had to pull out due to the injury. Nevertheless, I know I am going to get another race,” Kipruto told Citizen Digital.

“I am actually dumbfounded when I remember that race, it was special because I never expected to finish second and to put the icing on the cake it was also my birthday anniversary. It was the happiest day of my life,” recounts Kipruto.

The Kapsabet-based athlete who made his marathon debut in 2016 in Rome Marathon, a race in which he won, said he is considering making an appearance at the Prague Marathon slated for May 5 in the Czech Republic

“I hope to compete in Prague Marathon but my management is still in working on that currently so I am not sure yet,” disclosed Kipruto who trains under the tutelage of Italian coach Claudio Berardelli
