Inside Uhuru’s New Resolve to Deal With Gate Keeping and Brokering of Justice

Are the Kenyan Courts Free of External Interference in their day to day activities?

Justice in Kenya they say is expensive with the poor Kenyans even choosing not to run to the Courts in case of any injustice in their lives. This has mainly been attributed to the fact that Kenyan Courts have become like auctioning grounds where the highest bidder get’s justice and the lowest bidder remains dejected for the rest of his/her life.

It is this precedence that the head of state is out to do away with and has called on the Chief Justice to ensure that sanity is brought back to the Kenyan Courts.

Uhuru has asked the Chief Justice to step up and weed out corrupt individuals in the Judiciary saying no one is immune.

President Kenyatta noted that the Judiciary is not immune to corruption adding there are known culprits who exploit the court process to escape the rule of law.

“Gate keeping and brokering of justice is all too common and in its wake are broken and suffering Kenyans as impunity wreaks havoc in their livelihoods and their health,” said President Kenyatta.

“A crook is a crook, whether in a Judge or advocate’s robe and should not be treated any different, if anything the Judiciary should hold itself to a much higher standard,” added Kenyatta.

While reiterating his respect for the judiciary’s freedom, Mr. Kenyatta urged the Judiciary to respect and uphold the Constitution.

The head of state was Speaking at the Supreme Court during the release of the 2017-2018 annual Judiciary report, an event also attended by DP William Ruto.
