Online influence in Kenya is heavily measured by the prominence of traditional media according to a report released by Odipo Dev.
Therefore, politicians, musicians, comedians and mainstream media celebrities have emerged cream of the crop in this research.
The leading personalities on Facebook, which is considered the leading social media network are;
1) Mike Sonko
On his Facebook page, the Nairobi Governor was followed by 1.7 million people at the time of publishing.
Sonko has been active on the various social media platforms and posts progress of development projects around the County and is never shy to help the youth.
2) Daniel Churchill Ndambuki
Churchill, his stage name, is a Kenyan comedian, who also doubles up as a presenter on Classic 105. He has gained influence through his comedy show that airs every Sunday on NTV.
The comedian has 2.6 million followers on Facebook, where he posts upcoming events and entertaining videos.
3) Uhuru Kenyatta
President Uhuru Kenyatta is an influential individual among Kenyans who is known for his outgoing nature. He is followed by 3.6 million people and posts on developments, areas he visits, and events involving the presidency.
4) William Ruto
Deputy President William Ruto also makes it to the list. On his Facebook timeline, Ruto mostly posts projects he is engaged in to the 1.1 million people who follow him.
5) Carol Radul
She is a sports radio presenter at Kiss 100 and keeps her followers updated on various sports disciplines. She is enthusiastic about football and has 360K followers on Facebook.
6) Akothee
The Kenyan musician has recently become a household name, especially amongst the youth due to her music and way of life.
Apart from Facebook where she has 612K followers, Akothee is also popular and influential on Instagram.
7) Cyprian Nyakundi
He is a controversial Kenyan blogger interested in politics and governance and has 322K followers on Facebook.
Nyakundi rose to fame mostly due to his influence and his hundreds of thousands of followers on Twitter until his account was suspended for posting defamatory content.
