The Recovery of Ksh 8 Billion Fake Currency: Can The Government Really Protect Its People From Counterfeit Products?

The bust of counterfeit products in the country is becoming such a norm that Kenyans don’t even flinch anymore when they hear that detectives have unearthed another counterfeit den.

Indeed, Kenyans have had enough; so much so that today’s recent revelation of more than Ksh 8 billion in fake Kenyan and International currency has infuriated many individuals online.

The fact that it sheds light on an underground counterfeit cartel that is running its activities with impunity is worrying.

What’s even scarier is that some of the suspects connected to these counterfeit products are your average Joe on the street.

Take for example, Joseph Munyao, the prime suspect that was nabbed alongside Nancy Muthoni today in possession of the fake goods.

According to reports by the DCI, the suspect cliams to be employeed at Secure Africa.

Indeed, the house he was staying in was discovered with the fake gold and currency.

With all these counterfeit busts happening a little too late, one has to wonder whether the government is really capable of curbing the flooding of counterfeit goods to the market.
