Sonko’s threatens to arrest Nairobi residents involved in water pollution

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has issued a warning to residents who will found polluting the Nairobi River.

The Governor said that there has been an increase in water pollution due to increased discharge of commercial and domestic effluents, which has tremendously affected the water characteristics.

Sonko added that this has adversely affected the water eco-system and reduced the usefulness of the waters within the County and downstream, terming it as a situation that calls for urgent intervention.

“In pursuant of the above and promoting clean, sustainable and orderly use of the waterways, Nairobi City County through the inspetorate department we be arresting those polluting Nairobi River. ” he stated

His team is currently working on the ongoing clean-up of Nairobi River by youth groups from Dandora and Korogocho, who were issued with cleaning materials by the Nairobi City County Government.
