Mombasa demands an increment in road maintenance allocations

Mombasa County has today pleaded with the Kenya Roads Board to increase the allocations given to them for road maintenance.

This comes after the county officials held a meeting with the delegation from the Kenya Roads Board led by Board Member Ms. Monika Solanki and Executive Director Eng. Jacob Ruwa.

The Mombasa County Deputy Governor William Kingi was among the officials who were present during this meeting.

The County highlighted that the Board has been a very vital partner of the county government in matters roads maintenance and rehabilitation.

In the last one year, Mombasa has worked with the board toward developing 100km of roads and 38km of walkways.

The County officials urged the board to incorporate allocation for drainage in the Road Maintenance Levy Fund (RMLF) inorder to enhance their drainage system.

The Road Inventory and Classification Survey revealed that Mombasa comparatively has a huge road network to maintain; currently standing at 500km.

William Kingi said that according to the survey details, it warrants their appeal for more resources to facilitate maintenance of the roads.

He also added that the county shall continue engaging with the board through the county department of transport, infrastructure and public works to ensure that our people have accessible roads.
