The form three student was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Tabaka Mission hospital where he had been rushed following the incident.

The Nation reports that the student got into an argument with the school prefect after he was found reading a bible at 7am on Tuesday, February 26.

A student who spoke of the matter says that the prefect- a form four student-  slapped the victim and kicked him in the stomach severally.

The victim was the only son in his family and was in school courtesy of a well wisher after losing his mum in 2015.

Although the administration turned down requests to speak to the media, a section of teachers have accused the school management of giving too much power to student leaders.

County Police Commander Martin Kibet who confirmed the incident said that police are already conducting investigations into the matter.

Officers from the Nyarambe police station interrogated the teachers after the incident but are yet to make any arrests.

Reports say the school head teacher Mathew Simiyu convened a quick assembly shortly after, told the students to remain calm before leaving in a hurry.

Students at the institution boycotted lunch protesting the incident as teachers called for the punishment of the culprit.

Parents who streamed to the school after the reports told journalists that they had raised the issue of prefects punishing the students on several parent meetings to no avail.
