Seven suspects who have been accused of acquiring sh 10 million from a Nairobi tycoon have been released on bond pending the hearing and determination of their case.
The seven have captured the imagination of the world after it emerged that they conned Sameer Africa Chairman Naushad Merali using President Uhuru Kenyatta’s phone number. The two also mimicked the president’s voice.
The seven were released after they appeared in Court and denied all the charges against them, on Wednesday. They were released on a cash bail of Sh100,000 each.
Joseph Waswa, Duncan Muchai, Isaac Wajekeche, William Simiyu, David Luganya, Gilbert Kirunja and Anthony Wafula first appeared in court on Monday, and the prosecution sought to have them detained for 10 days, as they concluded investigations.
But the magistrate denied the request saying that non of the suspects works for an IT company or the alleged bank in which the money was depositied.
