The chairman of Gospel Ministers in Uasin Gishu Bishop Wilson Kurui has strongly condemned the proposal by Kangema Constituency Member of Parliament Muturi Kigano that seeks to regulate churches.

While speaking to journalist in Eldoret Town Kurui said the church will not support the bill as it brings shame to them.

“Talking of churches and pastors being vetted is uncalled for and ill-intended since as pastors and bishops we are called to serve and have undergone a theology course,” said Kurui.

“Let the men of God preach the gospel. Surely, why are you vetting a man of God yet the Bible does not allow you to point a finger at a man of God? If you do that you will be cursed,” he added.

He, however, urged the government to consult church leaders through public participation before passing the bill.

This comes after Kigano promised to table a bill in parliament seeking to re-enact laws regulating the formation and registration of churches in the country, as well as put in place more stringent laws to stop the exploitation of church members.
