Police arrest Nairobi’s Latema blast suspect believed to have been captured by CCTV

One suspect has been arrested in connection to the explosion which happened at the Latema Road/Tom Mboya Street junction in Nairobi on January 26, Sources have learnt. Police confirmed that the suspect, identified as Mohammed Nurrow Mohammed was nabbed on Friday, February 22 in Moyale.

Reports further suggest the suspect was hanging at the Kenya-Ethiopia border at the time of the arrest and was bought to Nairobi to face charges soon after. As reported earlier, two people were seriously injured on the fateful day when an improvised explosive device went off along the busy Tom Mboya street.

Nairobi Region police commander Philip Ndolo at the time confirmed the explosion emanated from some goods which were being ferried by a man pushing a trolley along the crowded street. Since then, a viral CCTV footage shared on social media accounts showed the suspect dressed in grey sweat pant and black jumper carrying a light luggage in a sealed carton box as he made his way to the busy bus stage.

He was arraigned in court on Monday, February 25 and police were given the go-ahead to detain him for three more days as further investigations take place. According to the prosecutor, releasing the suspect could lead to a potential distortion of the investigations which have been classified as highly sensitive.
