Romelu Lukaku has vowed to get the goals to help Manchester United through their injury crisis and has revealed is happy to continue playing on the win as long as it helps his side to win matches.

The striker has often been moved into a wider role since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over in December, with mixed results.

Lukaku began centrally in the stalemate with Liverpool on Sunday but United’s first-half injury crisis and the fact that Marcus Rashford was carrying a knock of his own meant that the 21-year-old took the central striking berth after the break, with Lukaku on the right.

While the £75million man might prefer to be leading the line and scoring the goals, he is just as happy to try and turn creator and he showed it’s a role he can fill by fashioning United’s best chance against Liverpool with a clever pass to Jesse Lingard.

The Belgian said: “Left or right or up front – it doesn’t matter to me. Playing for this club is an honour and I just try to do my best in whichever position I play in.

“If it is on the right then I will try to create chances, which I did against Liverpool, and if it is up front then I will try to score goals.

“At the end of the day I just try and help my team mates out and try win matches.

“Yes, I’d like a run of games now. As long as the manager wants to use me I will do my best to help he team out.

“We have a number of injuries. But we have to stay positive, have that positive mentality. We are Manchester United and we have to go wherever we go and win.”

With Rashford struggling after being forced to play through the pain barrier against Liverpool, Lukaku could yet return to a central striking role against Crystal Palace.
