Kenya Railways (KR) has denied claims that the Ministry of Transport is colluding with a Spanish firm to import old locomotives.

In the meantime, KK also defended its position to import the trains adding that they are cheaper.

Through a statement sent to the newsrooms this morning, KK said that the interests of Kenyans will be safeguarded in the procurement process.

“Before the contract for the acquisition of the 11 refurbished DMUs (diesel multiple units) is signed, every effort will be made to ensure there are no illegalities and that the interests of Kenyans are safeguarded.  The government is committed to providing an efficient, safe and reliable commuter rail service,” KR said.
