DCI bravely exposes influential figures inside over Sh63b dam scandal

Construction of dams was to start in 2017 but some government officials asked for more than Ksh4 B to award the tender which is believed they were given but now there is no project to be seen in the Ksh63 billion.

As the director of criminal investigations scrutinizes dealings in the implementation of the Ksh 63 billion Arror and Kimwarer multi-purpose dams project, influential figures among them former powerful Cabinet minister Simeon Nyachae and former Head of Public Service Jeremiah Kiereni are among those mentioned to appear before the DCI.

The DCI summoned the directors of the companies to its headquarters as they were paid for various services connected with the dams, whose construction was scheduled to start in 2017 but which has been delayed amid claims that top Government officials had demanded kickbacks from the contractor.

Former Attorney General Charles Njonjo, former Kenya Airways CEO Titus Naikuni and current Telkom Kenya CEO (Telkom-Airtel Chairman) Mugo Kibati were also set to appear before the crime busters who are probing loss of public funds in the awarding of tenders to an Italian firm which does not have the capacity to undertake projects of such magnitude beginning 9am on Tuesday.

Nyachae, a director at Kentainers Kenya Limited and Saswa Investments is also set appear before the DCI to clarify on his companies’ involvement in the scam.

Njonjo, Kiereni and Naikuni are directors at CFC Bank/Heritage Insurance Limited which is being investigated over possible involvement in the looting of public coffers.
