DCI probes multi-billion dam construction, summons more than 100

More than a hundred people involved in the construction of two multi-billion dams have been summoned by the Director of Public Prosecutions Gorge Kinoti.

The a hundred summoned were paid for various services connected with the dams which were scheduled to have started construction in 2017.

The dams, Arror and Kimwarer in Elgeyo-Marakwet said to amount to Sh63 billion were purposed for production of hydro-electricity and irrigation within the said region.

They were however flagged off in 2018 following an agreement between Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA) and the local community over land compensation.

It was revealed that a down payment of 41 million Euros (Sh 4.9 billion) has been made for the design of Arror dam.

Some of the companies listed are; Silent Night Kenya, Red Court Hotel Company, Azimath Company, Charleston Travel Ltd, Oshwal Wholesalers, Kentainers Limited, Heritage Insurance among others.

“The under-listed companies and their Directors are believed to be connected with or have information which will assist in ongoing investigations into fraudulent construction of both Arror and Kimwarer Multi-Purpose dams valued at Ksh.63 billion whose construction was to commence since December 2017 within Elgeyo Marakwet County…,” reads part of the summons.
