Arsenal target agrees to join Gunners ahead of reported summer move to Emirates

Arsenal have reportedly taken a huge step forward with their attempts to hire Monchi as the famed sporting director is believed to have accepted an offer from the Gunners.

Monchi, who currently works for Roma, has been linked with becoming Arsenal’s new technical director since it was confirmed Sven Mislintat would leave his post as the club’s head of recruitment.

Mislintat’s departure was announced in January and he officially left the club earlier this month, with the former Borussia Dortmund man’s reign lasting just 14 months.

Monchi is widely regarded as one of the best sporting directors in the game

The north Londoners are believed to have assessed many candidates to succeed Mislintat in the position, but Monchi has been a prime target due to his excellent record throughout his 17-year spell with Sevilla.

Monchi was responsible for discovering the likes of Sergio Ramos, Jesus Navas and Jose Antonio Reyes, and also signed players such as Dani Alves, Julio Baptista and Ivan Rakitic before selling them for huge profit

He left Sevilla in April 2017 and soon joined Roma, but has now agreed to cut short his spell in Italy to join Arsenal.

According to Calcioumercato, Monchi has said ‘yes’ to Arsenal over a move to the Emirates, with the Gunners ready to pay the £2.6million (€3million) required to release him from his contract.

Though no official moving date is claimed, previous reports suggest Monchi was being targeted by Arsenal to start work over the summer.

Roma have started assessing candidates to succeed Monchi, with former AC Milan director Massimiliano Mirabelli and Daniele Faggiano, who currently works for Parma, on the club’s shortlist along with Federico Balzaretti and Frederic Massara, who could be promoted from within to jointly take the position.
