Why Eric Dier is missing for Tottenham’s clash with Burnley

An explanation for Eric Dier’s absence from Spurs’ matchday squad for their clash with Burnley has been provided online this afternoon.

Burnley vs Tottenham
Mauricio Pochettino’s men are currently locked in action with Burnley in a Premier League matchup at Turf Moor.

The hosts headed into proceedings on a vastly-improved run of form of late, with Sean Dyche’s men unbeaten across their last 7 league outings.

This run has seen the Clarets climb above the likes of Newcastle and Cardiff to 15th in the English top-flight table.

Tottenham, meanwhile, are currently in the midst of a superb run of form of their own.

The North Londoners had racked up 4 straight wins across all competitions before today, including a 3-0 drubbing of Borussia Dortmund in the first-leg of their Champions League last-16 tie with the Bundesliga leaders last week.

As such, a tightly-contested affair is no doubt in store this afternoon.

Kane in, Dier out
Ahead of kick-off at Turf Moor, the starting line-ups of both sides were announced a short time ago, with visitors Tottenham having been buoyed by the return of star man Harry Kane.

However, there were also a number of notable absentees from Mauricio Pochettino’s matchday squad, with none of Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez or Kieran Tripper present.

While the latter pair are thought to have simply been rested ahead of a crucial upcoming run of fixtures for Spurs, Dier has missed out due to illness, as confirmed by the reliable Dan Kilpatrick and Alasdair Gold:
