Paul Merson: I don’t think Arsenal have chance of getting in top four this season

Paul doesn’t see his former club among top four finishers:

“Southampton have put themselves in a difficult position by losing to Cardiff [2-1 at home]. They have a massive game against Fulham coming up and I don’t think they get anything at the Emirates. Arsenal beat the lesser teams at home, but I don’t think they have a chance of getting in the top four this season.

“They are not consistent enough and there will be results along the way where they slip up, as they did in the Europa League at BATE Borisov [1-0 loss on the road and 3-0 win at home], who are a run-of-the-mill team. They have those results in them and I would be shocked if they got in the top four.”

Unai Emery has stressed on the importance of getting 3 points vs Soton at home to keep fighting for a top four spot:

“Like all the teams in the Premier League, they are difficult and they will be preparing for this match with big players and also with time and for us it is difficult,” Emery said. “We have respect [for them] but we need to impose our gameplan and quality and intensity.

“It is very important to get the three points, we are playing at home with our supporters and I want to carry on stronger here but with a big demand from ourselves to find a victory.”
