NTV Reporter Almost Hit By a Reckless Driver While on Duty

NTV Business Anchor Dan Mwangi had a close shave on Friday when a car almost hit him at a pedestrian crossing along Thika Super Highway

While reporting on the ongoing construction of a footbridge at Witeithie along the busy highway, the journalist sought to show the dangers pedestrians were exposed to at the crossing point.

He noted that some drivers did not respect the Zebra crossing as they zoomed past forcing pedestrians to wait for the vehicles to pass before crossing.

Not even the single bump placed right before the zebra crossing can regulate impatient drivers.

As the journalist embarked on crossing the road, one driver stopped and allowed him to pass. The driver in the other car, however, was not as thoughtful as he sped up at the zebra crossing.

In response, Mwangi had to stop and the car missed hitting him by mere centimetres.

“Some drivers are thoughtful. But some like that Toyota Fielder do not respect the rules of the crossing zone because pedestrians have right of way,” he stated as he made his way to the side of the road.

He explained further, “Many lives have been lost, hawkers have had their feet stepped on by vehicles and this is a situation the construction of the footbridge will seek to resolve.”

Other footbridges to be constructed along the highway are at Garden City Mall, Kenya School of Monetary Studies, and the Magumu road junction.

The ongoing construction of the four footbridges along Thika Highway is estimated to cost taxpayers a whopping Ksh820 Million.
