Coach Kimanzi’s win a record third time

“I feel really happy and privileged to win this award for the third time. The work that the players have put in in the training ground and the sacrifices they have taken have seen the team rise,” said a happy Kimanzi as he received his award.

Those are the words of Mathare United head coach Francis Kimanzi.

Mr Kimanzi was named Fidelity Insurance Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) Kenya Premier League coach of the month for January.

He has guided the slum boys to third place on the log with 26 points after 14 matches played, with only two points separating them and log leaders Bandari, who have played a game less.

The Harambee Stars assistant coach, who has now won the award a record third time explained to the press how he tries to maintain the balance in his team while competing among the elites of Kenya football.

“We started well because we knew that we are facing a very tricky season and we had to be smart in the way we did our pre-season, but at some point that streak has to break and after around 10 matches it did,” he noted.

Kimanzi is confident Mathare will go back to the top of the log.
