Chelsea transfer ban: Can they sign any players? How long is it for? Why were they banned?

The English giants were left horrified after being placed under a transfer embargo and fans now face the prospect of seeing no new signings at the Stamford Bridge for the foreseeable future.

Barcelona suffered a similar fate in 2015.

Why are Chelsea banned?

TECHNICALLY speaking, Chelsea are banned for ‘breaking rules regarding the protection of minors’.

The English giants ‘illegally’ signed under-age foreign players in
29 incidences of transfers and which relates to the transfer of players aged under 18.

FIFA have given the club 90 days to rectify the situation concerning the players signed.The Premier League club have also been fined more than £460,000, while the FA face a £390,000 sanction.

Chelsea can contest the decision in front of the FIFA Appeal Committee.

What does it actually mean?

Chelsea are basically banned from registering any new players in all competitions across all levels.

How long is the ban for?

THE ENglish giants are not allowed to register players for the next two transfer windows.

That means they must stick with their current crop of stars until January 2021.
