Why Nakuru boy hacked his mother with a panga

Residents of Elburgon, Nakuru county were shocked after a 15 years old boy hacked his mother with a panga leaving her with serious injuries in her head. The mother had questioned why her son had kept off school only weeks after joining Form One.

She explains; ”He only attended classes in January and has since been idling around home. I have provided him with everything but he has refused to continue with his studies.” A quarrel erupted after she demanded that he explains why he was unwilling to go school.

The boy later asked that he goes to their neighbour’s house to watch television but the mother denied him permission since he had angered her. He then went to the kitchen and picked a machete and a club. He told his mother he would use the weapons to access the school in the night and bring home the books that she bought for him.

The mother explains; ”I was shocked at the sudden change of behaviour and calmed him down. I warned him against going to school in the night as it would be dangerous for him. In the process, he struck me in the head with the machete.” She was rescued by her neighbours who rushed her to Nyayo Hospital Elburgon town.

Area Chief Bethwel Kibe said the mother of five had high hopes in her last born, before he turned truant; ”It is a shocking incident that the boy turned violent against his mother over his own education. The family has a humble background and the mother had high hopes in him. The police have taken up the matter.”

The boy is said to have no indiscipline cases in school. The principal of the secondary school says they are yet to establish why the boy left the school.
