Formula 1 have announced a documentary on Netflix called ‘Formula 1: Drive to Survive’, will be released on March 8.
The series will be looking back at the 2018 season, where Lewis Hamilton raced to victory, and follows the journey from the Australian Grand Prix curtain-raiser to the very final race in Abu Dhabi.
Along with a new trailer, which provides a sneak peek on what to expect (scroll down to see), Ian Holmes, Director of Media Rights at Formula 1, released the following statement.
“As we move into a new generation of Formula 1 we are thrilled to announce our new docu-series ‘Formula 1: Drive to Survive’.”
He added: “This truly unique series embodies the sport and helps us to showcase and unearth the untold stories on and off the track.
“Partnering with Netflix to create an original series puts us at the forefront of becoming a media and entertainment brand and attracting new fans to the sport.”

Paul Martin of Box to Box Films further added: “Netflix was the perfect platform on which to tell the inside story of this incredible sport.
“F1 has long been a world of colourful characters and super-sized egos, thrills and drama, victory and tragedy, but until now that world has been largely hidden and secretive.
‘Formula 1: Drive to Survive’ takes the viewers right into the heart of this world and shows what it is like to live, work and race within the world’s fastest sport.”
The aim of the documentary, which is a ten-part series, is to provide an insider perspective of a Formula One driver and the day-to-day life from within a manufacturer’s garage.
Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel endured an ongoing battle throughout the season, with the Mercedes driver eventually finishing the season the victor and claiming his fifth driver’s championship.
This Netflix series is expected to highlight this battle, with the Singapore, Italian and German GP’s likely to be prominent.
Hamilton himself recognised the importance of these races.
He said: “None of us predicted that we would’ve won in Hockenheim or Monza or particularly Singapore. Collectively we’ve done an amazing job in this team.”
The doc will coincide with the start of the 2019 season in March as Hamilton will aim to defend his world championship for another year.
