Castration will serve best for sex offenders – Isiolo Woman Rep

Sex abuse has been a common offense in the country recently. Such cases are on the rise and an action now has to be taken.

Isiolo woman representative Rehema Jaldesa wants men who sexually offend underage castrated.

This is in a bid to discourage the vice which has been common in the area from the community.

I have proposed amendments to section 43 of the Sexual Offences Act to replace the 10-year jail term of offenders. It makes no sense to hand a rapist a 10-year sentence when he has already messed up the entire life of an innocent woman or girl,” Jaldesa said.

The woman rep was speaking at a press conference on Thursday after a Women’s Parliamentary Caucus Group meeting.

According to the Act, a person guilty of an offence under this section is liable upon conviction to imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than 10 years but which may be enhanced to imprisonment for life

The move comes at a time when cases of defilement have increased across the country.
