Ms. Serem, who was nominated by President Uhuru Kenyatta in June last year, was among those finally cleared to take up their envoy roles this year following months of uncertainty.

The former Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) chairperson’s posting was initially marred with controversy amid speculation rife that she, among other envoys, had been rejected by their host countries.

The Kenyan government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs however – in a statement – stated that the country “has never had any envoy rejected” adding that “all the countries are ready to receive them.”

Former Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario together with his then Permanent Secretary Richard Ekai, who are facing charges linked to the misuse of funds during the Rio Olympics, are however yet to be formally confirmed as envoys in their designated countries.
