Former opposition leader Raila Odinga has ordered the Independent Police Oversight Authority IPOA to probe why a 38-year old man died while in the police custody.
Samwel Odhiambo was en route to the court where he was facing rape charges.
“I am shocked to learn that Odhiambo, who was being escorted to court, is dead and yet the police cannot prove that the deceased jumped out of the moving vehicle. Only a proper probe will reveal the cause of death of the suspect,” said Raila.
The family of the deceased had walked to Usenge Police station demanding the police to explain the mystries of his death
According to the police, Odhiambo jumped from a moving vehicle while being escorted to Bondo law courts.
Odhiambo had been arrested for allegedly raping a neighbour, the police records held it.
