The Desperate Man Who Was Caught Hiding a Baby at KNH is Freed at Last

A desperate father who was apprehended on Monday for trying to escape with a baby over a Ksh.56,000 hospital bill has been released.

The court, on Tuesday morning handed Bonface Murage Wangechi a 3-month suspended sentence.

The sentence means that he will be on State watch for the said period and expected not to commit any other offense.

If he does, he will be put on custodial sentence.

Murage told the court that he digs trenches in Rongai to provide for the family and his wife is has no job.

The young father, 22, had been charged that on February 16, 2019, he tried to escape with a one-month-old baby girl in an attempt to run without paying Kenyatta National Hospital a bill of Ksh 56,000.

He pleaded guilty to the charge and expresses fears that his wife and daughter could have remained in hospital forever because he could not afford to pay the hospital bill.

Murage had been caught by the KNH security guards while trying to escape with a child hidden in a bag.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko cleared the bill and saw them released.
