Nairobi governor Mike Sonko is in New York after ending up the only African leader selected to lead African cities in the General Assembly Conference which is focusing on cities roles in the global issues agenda.

Sonko who revealed he was optimistic the conference would result in adoption of positive change has already revealed via facebook live that he will return with intentions of repainting Nairobi with citizens will demonstrate or not.

The beautification plans he says was inspired by the Mombasa themed buildings.

He further indicated that New York city faces same challenges as Nairobi including potholes, garbage and traffic congestion.

While acknowledging that beautification of the Capital was not the most pressing matter, Sonko indicated that it would take collective effort to address issues bedeviling the city.

“We can’t fix Nairobi in a day, I cant lie. We are fixing the roads and garbage collection is slowly picking up,” he noted.

He indicated that he plans to broaden these efforts to cover all parts of the city and not only the CBD and Eastlands.

Sonko equally remarked that he would continue working closely with the national government to decongest the city saying the move should not be interpreted as an attack on the matatu industry.
