Nandi College student brutally stabbed three times

A middle-aged woman from Kaiboi Technical Institute in Nandi County has succumbed to injuries after she was fatally stabbed while they were queuing for breakfast at the institution’s dining hall by her alleged secret eye.

Mathew Yego, 22, is said to have fallen out with Faith Chepkorir, 20 for showing interest in another man at the institution prompting yego.

According to students at the technical institute, the suspect, a Nandi resident, was infuriated that his girlfriend, a Kericho native, had “fallen in love” with another male student, who hails from Nyanza.

“It is alleged – here in school – that Chepkorir fell for a man, who is running for an elective seat in the students’ body union. The union seat aspirant hails from Nyanza, and the 20-year-old spent a better part of her time campaigning for him. Yego felt shortchanged, and demanded to know why she was committing to a man ‘from far-off land’. That confrontation at the dining hall is what resulted in the fatality,” said a student at technical institute.

Area chief, Wilson Serem, says Yego, a student pursuing a course in plumbing, confronted his girlfriend, a secretarial course student, demanding to know “what he lacked; and as a result, led to her cheating on him”.

According to Serem, During their argument, Yego brandished a kitchen knife from his pair of trousers and stabbed Chepkorir thrice – in the head, ribs and chest, killing her on the spot.

The suspect attempted to flee the scene, but was cornered by fellow students, who beat him up, inflicting serious bruises and cuts to his body before police arrived shortly and taook the suspect to Kapsabet County Referral Hospital.

Authorities say he would be arraigned once he is discharged from hospital.

The students resulted to staging protest and engaging police in running as they protested against the killing of their colleague.

The woman’s body was taken to Kapsabet County Referral Hospital mortuary.
