Mombasa Goes Digital with e-parking system

Motorists in Mombasa County will now use an electronic vehicle parking system as the County Government seeks to increase its revenue and seal revenue collection loopholes.

The county government projects to raise an additional 700 million shillings following the introduction of the system.

The e-parking services the first of its kind in the coastal region, targets an estimated 6,000 vehicles that use car parks in the central business district daily.

According to Mombasa Deputy Governor William Kingi, in the last financial year the county collected 3.2 billion shillings in revenue, adding that the County Government’s plan to automate all revenue generating streams for the County is unstoppable.

Kingi Mombasa County transport executive Towfiq Balala allayed fears that workers will lose their jobs after the new system takes effect and termed it as a solution to parking problems.
