Margaret Kenyatta challenges the youth to be agents of positive change

First Lady Margaret Kenyatta has challenged the Youth to be agents of positive change and serve as solution providers to the hurdles facing the nation.

The First Lady this morning graced the official opening of the 37th session of the East African Model UN. The conference which brings together more than 800 participants drawn from high schools within the EA region, aims at formulating solutions for real world problems.

Margaret Kenyatta encouraged young people to be agents of positive change and progress. She noted that the youth hold the key to the future and should proactively contribute to searching for solutions to challenges such as maternal & child mortality, poverty alleviation among others .

The First Lady said the conference also provides an opportunity for young people to cultivate responsible leadership and gain first-hand appreciation of the dynamics of individuals and cultures, as well as make the young men and women more aware and attuned to their obligations.

Margaret Kenyatta said that it was an honour to join so many bright and inspirational young people during the conference.

“The Model UN has become an increasingly effective and popular means of educating students about the important work of the UN, and the global issues it resolves as part of its institutional mandate. I congratulate @UN for hosting this important Model program for all these years.” she added

The First Lady mentioned that she was pleased to hear that the EAMUN has developed a charity wing which has impacted women at the Langata Women’s Prison, self-help groups in Laikipia, as well as sponsoring two schools in Kibra to participate as delegates in the Junior model UN program

She also commended all the participants of this year’s conference and encourage them to make the best of their experience; to make friends, to be confident to speak up and to let their voice be heard .
