Why star didnt quit Chelsea despite being unhappy

Following reports that he could have exited Chelsea in the January transfer window, Andreas Christensen has revealed that talks between him and the club persuaded him to stay.

Christensen was a key figure in Antonio Conte’s team last season that won the FA Cup as David Luiz was demoted after winning the Premier League in 2017. With the arrival of Maurizio Sarri from Napoli, Luiz has been preferred ahead of the Dane as the manager has reverted to a back four.

In an interview with Bold.dk, Christensen revealed what persuaded him to stay at Chelsea despite interest from Barcelona, “It’s difficult. the moment there’s two clear first choices, and then there’s me. I just have to show that I’m ready and take the chance when I get it. A lot of talk [over a January move] but it was quickly made clear that the club still saw me as someone who would play.

“Of course thats really nice to hear so I just have to keep proving myself. I think I’ve been good the last few times I’ve got the chance and then I can only hope that I’ll be selected more often.”
