Government has ordered investigations After 60 Infants Die at Kiambu Level Five Hospital.

CS Sicily Kariuki ordered the Health ministry to Investigate the suspected death of 60 infants at Kiambu level Five Hospital.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto inspecting a labor ward at a government hospital.

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board (KMPDB) has also launched investigations over the same.

The findings of the investigations are expected to be out at the end of two weeks.

In the alleged incidences, 30 infants died in December 2018, another 20 died last in January. Shock on you, the hospital has registered 10 infant deaths within the 17 days of February alone.

The affected mothers raised an alarm concerning the alarming mortality rate of infants but the hospital management defended its staff without going into details of what was happening.

 

 

According to the facilities medical superintended Jesse Ngungi, the infants died because they developed respiratory complications or due to being born before due time.

“The deaths can be explained because we do a mortality and morbidity audit for every death that happens in the newborn unit. That is to make sure we have continuous improvement in the quality of care we provide to patients,” Ngugi told journalists.

Joseph Mureithi a victim of the same, told journalists that he has now lost two infants at the facility.

“I felt bad because it was my second child to die at the Kiambu Level 5 Hospital after being born. I don’t know why this is happening because the hospital is not explaining,” Mureithi
