In a bid to improve revenue parking collection in Mombasa, the Deputy Governor of Mombasa County Mr Wiliam Kingi has launched an efficient e-parking system in the city.
The e-parking system, which is built by USSD technology, will also serve to eliminate any revenue leaks that have been experienced by the County Government’s Transport Department.
At the current moment, Mombasa collects roughly 1 million every day from parking fees.
Nevertheless, about 6,000 vehicles are parked every day in the region, as per the speech by the Deputy Governor Mr. Kingi at the launch of the e-parking system during the ceremony held at the Treasury Square.
According to Kingi, the system will enable the county government to double its revenue from the current daily total of Kshs 1 million to Kshs 2 million.

Indeed, Kingi believes that the digital transformation will enable the collection of parking fees to solve any major problems that the transport department has been facing.
Interestingly, Kingi revealed that the county used to depend on the honesty and integrity of the parking attendants to collect the parking revenue.

Nevertheless, the new system will not only make it easy for car owners to make payments, but also to ensure that the integrity of the payment system will remain steadfast.
