Fear as Athi River Lawyer is shot seven times by unknown gunmen

Police are investigating details of how a lawyer was brutally murdered in his house in Athi River on Sunday afternoon.

According to details, lawyer Robert Chesang was sprayed with seven bullets from an AK 47 at his house in Mooke Estate at around 12.30 PM. It is believed that the lawyer was alone in the house during the incident.

Police said they found seven used bullet cartridges and an AK-47 rifle on the house floor after locals alerted them of gunshot sounds.  The officers had to jump over a locked gate to access his house. The report said the house door was locked from the inside.

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has condemned the killing. Responding to the incident on Monday, LSK’s lower eastern chairman Justus Mutia said the incident was unfortunate and called for speedy investigations.

“I … urge the investigation agencies to act with speed to unravel the circumstances under which our colleague was killed and let all the culprits be brought to book,” said Mr Mutia.
