Beware! List of University Offering Rejected Courses

It has emerged that thousands of Kenyan students are wasting their effort and money studying what can be termed as ‘fake’ courses.

This is after the Commission for University Education has rejected about 133 courses with a cumulative enrolment capacity of 10,000 slots taught in Kenyan Universities.

The essence of CUE existence is to approve all courses before they are listed for students to study. Of concern is that there are students already studying these programs.

Unfortunately, students taking these courses may be forced to painfully discontinue with them and those who have already graduated may find themselves blocked from the job market as their courses deemed as insignificant.

Among the universities offering these ‘fake’ programs include;

Tom Mboya University has 25 rejected courses as Garissa and Alupe universities having 10 each. Great Lake University of Kisumu and Kenya Highlands Evangelical University have eight unapproved courses while Lukenya and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga of Science and Technology have six rejected courses each.

CUE also declined to approve four courses at both Kenyatta University and Karatina University, with three courses being rejected at Moi University.

However, the commission’s chair addressed the panic at the institutions stating that the CUE is still in conversation with the affected varsities.

This is still an ongoing process and we are in consultation with Universities,” the Professor stated.

A recent universities audit report, however, accused the institutions of diluting quality of higher education by introducing many courses, which are narrow in scope and not market driven.

CUE accused various varsities of launching many useless programs to make money.
