DCI Arrest an Australian Man for Interfering with CCTV Cameras

Benjamin Gsull, the Australian national arrested in Nairobi.

The Director of Criminal Investigation have arrested an Australian man, Benjamin Gsull, who resides in Nairobi after detectives raided his house.

According to the DCI, Gsull was arrested for allegedly covering and switching off CCTV cameras of an apartment in Nairobi. The DCI states that they received complaints from the public and launched investigations.

“Upon searching his house (he stays in the same apartment) rounds of ammunition & other substances believed to be bhang were found,” DCI said on Friday.

There were also complaints that he tried to break into a house when he was discovered on the surveillance footage.

“Police had earlier received complaints of attempted housebreaking and were carrying out investigations when they discovered him in the footage,” DCI Kinoti noted.

Kinoti also hinted that Gsull is currently in safe custody and will be arraigned in court to face several charges.

The charges he will be facing include possession of narcotic drugs, possession of firearms without a certificate, preparation to commit a felony, and being in Kenya illegally and failing to register as a foreign national.

This case came a few hours after one other man was arrested after he was seen collecting garbage while carrying a gun- his case went viral before the DCI took hold of him.

In Kenya, it is a serious felony possessing a firearm without being registered and can lead to a jail term of not less than 7 years.
