Head of Inspectorate Nairobi City County Tito Kilonzi has distanced himself from the delays of the recruitment of new county askaris saying the back stops at Nairobi County Public Service Board, is yet to be produce the final list.
According to him all arrangements to have the recruits trained are already in place and they were supposed to receive the final list for the recruitment of about 1000 new officers, but that has not happened and only the board knows why
‘‘I’ve done my part and the list is with the board that is yet to furnish me with the final list and as per the law, its only the public service board that recruits.’’ Tito added.
He was asked to explain before a legal committee the measures he has put in place to fill in vacancies left by those set to retire.
Legal committee chairman Jahendra Malde on the other hand demanded exact numbers for those retiring and those leaving because of natural attrition.
‘‘Chief officer, the concern of members is that of how many officers are leaving so that we can see how to engage and help your office in ensuring new officers are recruited and the county runs without a hitch ?’’ said Malde
The recruitment of the new county askaris was to take place before December 2018 but up to now there is no clear indication of when it will take place.
