Track and Field Legend Nyantika Mayioro Hospitalized with Tuberculosis

It’s an anxious day for Kenyan athletics fans as track legend, Nyantika Mayioro, is currently receiving treatment at the Christamarriane Hospital, Kisii County.

Mayioro, who is at the ripe-old-age of 88 years, has been diagnosed with tuberculosis. He’s been in the hospital for the past five days.

In a video doing rounds on social media, the frail athlete addressed two individuals, confronting them of grabbing two settlement schemes that totalled to seven hectares in Nyamira Constituency

He can then be seen on the video requesting President Kenyatta, Interior CS Fred Matiangi, and opposition leader Raila Odinga to intervene and seriously address the issue.

A Rich Athletic History

Mayioro rose to stardom after winning the 3000 metres race at the 1953 Indian Ocean Games hosted in Madagascar.

Nevertheless, his hospitalization sparks a worrying trend as sports legend Joe Kadenge is currently hospitalized in Nairobi Hospital after suffering a stroke.
