It now emerges that one of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chief campaigners in Ugenya constituency was on Thursday arrested.
Martin Ochindo is the campaign coordinator for Chris Karani, the ODM candidate for the approaching Ugenya parliamentary by election slated for April.
In its Twitter account, the party claims that the latter’s arrest was engineered by David Ochieng who is Karani’s leading rival and the former area lawmaker.
The party adds that the main reason behind Ochindo’s arrest was that he was found campaigning for Karan at Ochieng’s bedrock in East Ugenya.
The opposition leader Raila Odinga-led side is now demanding an unconditional release of Ochindo.
“We are informed of the arrest of Martin Ochido, the Campaign Coordinator for Hon. Chris Karani, our Candidate for Ugenya in East Ugenya Ward. Arrest is said to have been engineered by David Ochieng coz the Ward is his backyard. We demand that he be released unconditionally,” it said.
Karan won the seat on the ODM party in the August 8, 2017 elections before his election was annulled by the Supreme Court in December 2018.
Ochieng’, a former member of ODM who fell out with the party in the run up to the 2017 polls will be seeking to reinstall himself on his Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) party.
Karan was handed a direct ticket for the race weeks back.
