The husband of Caroline Mwatha, Joshua Ochieng, has not categorically stated whether or not he agrees with the post-mortem results that indicated his wife died from excessive bleeding as a result of botched abortion of a 5-month old foetus.

After the results Mr Ochieng said his wife’s funeral plans have begun – and that he has abandoned his quest to seek justice over what he had – earlier – termed as “brutal murder” of his wife.

Ms Mwatha’s family had – prior to the postmortem – protested the then-police allegations that the human rights activist succumbed to an unsuccessful abortion conducted on February 6 at a clinic in Dandora

Her father, Stanslus Mbai, said he was “unaware” of his daughter’s pregnancy.

Police said the deceased got pregnant by her lover, who is based in Isiolo, and – as a result –, she had opted to get rid of the unborn baby.

Ms Mwatha’s husband, Mr Ochieng, also expressed his doubts on the police statement.

However, following the Thursday autopsy report, Mr Ochieng, said he is left with no choice but to “leave the matter to God”.

“The government has tabled its autopsy findings. I have no comment on that post-mortem report. What I would say is we are now making arrangements to bury our loved one,” Mr Ochieng said.
