Chaos in Marsabit as MP hurls ‘prostitute’ insult at MCA

Former Laisamis MP Joseph Lekuton, who is accused insulting a female politician was on Thursday denied request to bar the media from covering his case.

The MP is accused of referring to former nominated Member of Marsabit County Assembly Zamzam Hussein Aligela as a prostitute.

Ms Aligela claimed that while in the company of other women in Laisamis town on May 16, 2015, Mr Lekuton referred to her as a prostitute.

The insult is said to have been made in the presence of other regional leaders such as then Marsabit Governor Ukur Yatani (now Labour Cabinet Secretary), Senator Godana Hargura, several MCAs among other guests.

Ms Aligela said that she filed a civil suit on November 9, 2015 after the police failed to take action against the former MP despite reporting the matter at Laisamis Police Station.

The case will be heard on May 14, 2019.
