United caretaker boss Solskjaer has revealed both will be out for two to three weeks, meaning both will miss Monday’s FA Cup tie at Chelsea and the crunch Premier League clash at home to Liverpool a week on Sunday. Martial and Lingard, who have been in inspired form for United of late, could both also miss the return leg against PSG in the French capital on March 6.  The loss of the duo is a big blow and Solskajer said: “I think they’ll be out for two to three weeks – then you’re looking at younger players.

“Mason Greenwood, it’s your time to step in, but he’s injured unfortunately, out for a couple of weeks as well. Sometimes that’s how the luck goes, but Mason will get his chance. “But it’s a chance for anyone who plays – Alexis [Sanchez], Romelu [Lukaku], [Tahith] Chongy or Angel [Gomes].

“Anthony and Jesse have done really well for us, they’re vital, but then again with Rom and Alexis, they’ve got different skill sets and will be able to show what they can do so need to gel a team together for Monday.” After Chelsea, United host Liverpool and Solskjaer hailed it as a “great week” and the chance to get back on course after his first defeat in 12 games in charge.

“Great week,” said Solskajer. “You don’t panic because you’ve lost a game, you don’t change everything, it doesn’t change the mindset at all. “We need to keep working the way we do and play football the way we do. We want to go down to Chelsea, we want to have Liverpool here and impose ourselves on those games and there are quite a few other teams with injuries so you have to adapt to that.
