Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has identified four positions that the club need to improve in the summer transfer window, according to reports.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been brilliant since taking over at United on a temporary basis following the sacking of Jose Mourinho in December.
The Norwegian has led the Red Devils back into the top four in the Premier League with 10 wins out of 12 in all competitions since his arrival.
The only loss of Solskjaer’s time in charge came on Tuesday evening when Paris Saint-Germain outclassed them in the second half to take a 2-0 lead into their Champions League last-16 second leg.
United are yet to appoint a permanent successor to Mourinho, with Solskjaer putting himself firmly in the frame.
But the Daily Mirror claims that whoever the new manager, ‘Woodward recognises’ that to get the club ‘back to the top’ there is a need for ‘further significant investment’ in playing staff.
Adding that United ‘need a top central defender while they also could do with new full-backs on both sides, along with a right-sided midfielder’.
But the first name on their list remains the same: Napoli centre-half Kalidou Koulibaly, who would cost ‘close to £90m’.
The report continues by saying United are also considering moves for Lucas Hernandez of Atletico Madrid and Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic, the latter ‘seen as the cheaper option of the two’.
